Side-By-Side configuration is incorrect

Some users encounter the side-by-side configuration error when they try to run our software. See example below:

Side-By-Side configuration is incorrect

There are a variety of issues that can cause the ‘side-by-side’ configuration error when trying to run our software. Our software was developed using Microsoft's Visual Studio and as such requires a certain "Redistributable Package" to be installed – either:

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86)
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package (x86)
depending on software and Release number.

During the installation process, the setup program will try to detect if the relevant Redistributable is already installed. If it does not detect an installation (every operating system handles these packages differently), the setup will pause and allow the Redistributable Package to be installed. Some systems will send a pop-up to seek your permission, if you say no, it will not be installed - and so our software will not run.

The most common cause of the side-by-side configuration error is where there is a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package (x86) installed, however it is an earlier version than what our software needs. So it's finding the files, however they are the wrong version.

To resolve the side-by side configuration error, download and install the latest versions of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages from:

  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) here - used by older versions of TPAR Generator
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable Package (x86) here - used by EMPDUPE Maker, PSAR Premium, TFN Dec Reporter
  • Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable Package (x86) here - used by TPAR Generator and STP Creator
Installing these Packages will do no harm to your computer and in most cases will resolve the issue. After downloading and installing the Packages, try running our software again. If this fails to resolve the error message, try re-starting your computer and then run our software. If problems persists, please contact us for further instructions.
